Why Shalimar Bagh buyers are switching from POP
POP cracks. Gypsum sags. Stretch does neither.
Most Shalimar Bagh kothis and builder floors have POP-and-paint ceilings. After a few hot summers and the odd leak from the floor above, the result is the familiar pattern: hairline cracks, watermarks, falling flakes near the air-cooler vent. The standard fix is more POP, more paint — and a week of dust in the home.
Stretch ceiling solves all three problems at once: no cracks because the membrane is flexible, no watermarks because it does not absorb water, no flakes because there is no plaster to fall. Crucially, fitting it does not need any wet work — the aluminium track is fixed to the perimeter wall, and the PVC sheet is heated and clipped in. Total dust output: minor, vacuum-able as we go.
Finishes we keep on hand
- Plain matte — the workhorse. Looks like a freshly-painted POP, ages better. ₹180 / sq ft.
- Satin — soft sheen, slightly reflective. ₹200 / sq ft. Excellent for living rooms.
- Glossy — fully reflective, visually lifts a low builder-floor ceiling. ₹220 / sq ft.
- Printed sky — high-resolution Italian or European sky photography. ₹280 – ₹360 / sq ft. Most popular for kids' rooms.
- Biophilic prints — leaf canopies, forest, floral. ₹320 – ₹420 / sq ft. Excellent for spa and clinic ceilings.
- Translucent & backlit — for hidden LED lighting effects. ₹380+ / sq ft. Striking over a dining table or reception desk.
What the install looks like in a Shalimar Bagh home
The fitter arrives, drills the perimeter track into the wall (2 mm above the existing ceiling line), and uses a heat gun to expand the PVC membrane to room temperature. Once warm, the membrane is clipped into the track, then cools and contracts to a perfectly flat finish. The whole job for a typical Shalimar Bagh bedroom takes one full day. A double-height kothi drawing room, two days.
Lighting is integrated during the install — recessed downlights, cove LEDs, hidden ambient strips. We can also do "starry sky" effects with fibre-optic point-lights through a deep navy printed membrane, which is the rare detail that justifies the higher cost in a kids' room. A settled kothi wall takes a slightly longer perimeter fix than a fresh builder-floor; we account for that on the measure.
The leak story
Stretch ceilings have one underrated property: they catch water. If a pipe or floor leaks from above, the membrane sags but does not tear. We drain it through a small access point and re-stretch the ceiling. Cost of repair: a fraction of redoing a POP ceiling. This alone has converted several Shalimar Bagh builder floors where a leak from the upper-floor neighbour is a recurring worry.
